- Golf & Business Club Kampenhout
The one kilometre cobbled drive fringed with rows of majestic old plane trees which you drive up as you enter shows immediately what Kampenhout stands for. A beautiful estate around the originally medieval Wilder Castle, with a true English-style parkland course.
You will need to hit the ball straight as the rough, effective bunkers and some impressive water hazards well in play will quickly punish wayward drives and miss-hit approach shots. Beautiful rare trees stand in the roughs, adding to the course's challenges. The club also features various practice facilities such as 3 training holes, a covered and lighted driving range, a chipping green and putting green, and a practice bunker.
Before or after your round you can visit the cozy clubhouse, housed in an old farmhouse. Overlooking the grounds you can enjoy a drink or an extensive menu in a friendly sporting atmosphere.
Wilder Castle is first mentioned in the second half of the 14th century when it was a feudal fortress connected to Heverlee. In 1578 it was completely destroyed by Spanish troops and around 1620 a new L-shaped water castle was constructed on the original foundations. The Lord of Wilder played a major role in Kampenhout: he had exclusive rights to hunt throughout the parish, for which he appointed the constables and churchwardens, and where he also exercised jurisdiction.
In the early 19th century the castle was demolished and replaced by the sober whitewashed neoclassical mansion we know today. Much of the foundations of the old castle were reused. The house underwent one last renovation in the early 20th century, creating the present castle. Surrounded by the beautiful, spacious park, also listed landscape heritage, it is inhabited by the De Broqueville family, who also own the golf club.
